It Worked Once

Three years ago about this time of year I decided to quit smoking. I'm happy to say that it worked.

BUT!

As a result of not being able to suck on a cancer stick any longer I needed another outlet to help me calm my ass (sorry) down. That's where food came in. As the name of the blog implies, I am a Middle-Aged Fat Woman, and it's time to do something about it.

I won't bore you with all of the blah, blah, blahs and how I plan on doing it and all but I will be a little grouchy and sharp of the tongue so don't take it personally.

Officially, if you're keeping score at home, I've gained 81 lbs since I stopped smoking.

I know, that's a whole person!

Anyhow, I stopped smoking the day after Thanksgiving, and that worked out really well. So, I'll start sometime this weekend once we finish the leftovers. (Sister makes really good Mac & Cheese, Brother makes pumpkin bread, I make deviled eggs, and Mom makes everything else)

Wish me luck!

Congrats on stopping the smoking! Good for you!

I'm another fat woman sliding down the far side of middle-aged. (Unless people start living a lot longer.) I have about 100 pounds to lose.

I've been listening to things people say about why people overeat. It's interesting that you've said the same thing. You ate because you needed to calm yourself down. I've been hearing that we eat because we're angry. "They" have probably been saying that all along and I never listened. Anyway, I started thinking about what I'm angry about and nearly went off like a nuclear bomb. It scared me. So I ate some M&Ms.

If you have any ideas for a different outlet for the emotions, I hope you'll post about it. I need to do something besides eat myself to death.

Good luck with your diet. I hope it works for you again. This is a hard time of year to lose weight and I wish you all the best!

I wish you lots of luck. Congratulations on stopping with the cancer sticks. (My husband died of lung cancer earlier this year, so I'm especially proud of you for stopping this. If you want more motivation, go read my post about his last breaths.)
I started dieting a month or so before he died and have lost around 25 pounds. The first few days are hardest -- partly because I was hungry and hadn't learned not to eat 24 hours a day and partly because it takes a while for results to show. Good luck!

I know how tough it can be, so please if you need to vent, cry, holler, or just talk, I am here. I am going to embark upon ANOTHER try at dieting...And, many of my friends and bloggin' buds! Hang in!
