It's nearing the end of day three as I watch my closest confidant fade to nothing. He's never judged me. He's seen me naked and didn't laugh. He's tolerated being danced with, completely oblivious to my singing along off key to our favorite Madonna tune. He's kept me company out on the porch and witnessed the many "seens" that I've written about.
And now, all I can do is sit and cry. My best friend is dying and there isn't anything I can do about it.
Junior, or the Cat, as we like to call him here has been with me for 15 years. He showed up around Thanksgiving in 1995, and was a complete mess. He was small, and probably not more than a few months old. He had every kind of worm imaginable and a case of diarrhea that lasted for weeks.
It didn't matter because it was love at first sight.
Everyone that came into contact with Junior always remarked at how beautiful he was; how striking and cleanly cut his markings were. Once you spent a few minutes with him, you became aware at how gentle and sweet he was. In his 15 years, I never saw him do anything bad or be aggressive. He was a gentle soul.
As Junior aged, he liked nothing better than going outside and going for a walk around the property, watching the squirrels and sitting in the sunshine. He liked to take rides in the car and especially liked to look at the Christmas lights each year.

In 2007, Junior was diagnosed with Diabetes and received insulin injections twice a day for the rest of his life. He didn't seem to mind them as long as he had something tasty in his food bowl. Sadly, like a lot of diabetic patients, both human and feline, it was his kidneys that failed in the end.
Junior passed away on November 12, and I'd be in complete denial if I said my heart wasn't broke. I'm out of words for now.
Goodbye, my friend. |

G,
My deepest and sincere condolences for your loss. I know you will miss your cat deeply. He was beautiful and he was your friend. I to am at a loss for words on this, but please know that I will be thinking of you. ~ Jen
Awww. I'm so sorry. I'm in tears for you both and don't know what to say. he's been such a wonderful companion.
I'm very sorry for you. It's very tough to lose a pet that's well loved. I've had it happen several times. Hugs!
We share your sadness. RIP Junior.
Tortie, handicapped born, passed away last month on the eve of EJ's birthday of kidney failure too.
I'm sorry to hear about what happened.
Hugs G, I know you are sad and hurt but ya know he is resting. I cant say I have ever had a pet that I got really attached to until I got my GP Luna. I sure dont think I could walk in the shoes you have to fill right now. My heart goes out to ya.
I feel for you. I can imagine how hurt you're feeling losing your beloved friend. I was teary-eyed just reading this post.
I remember losing my favorite pet cat back when I was in my teenage years and I was really devastated.
They say all dogs go to heaven. But, I also believe all cats go to heaven. They just have a different way of showing their affection towards their masters/owners.
I'm so sorry for you. Our four legged kids sure are a blessing and I wish I could give you a big hug right now.
Take care...xoxo
My deepest sympathies. I lost a black and white cat, my first, last year.
I sit here with my cat, Leona (golden tabby), sitting on the sofa arm by me, and share your sadness. Cats make a home feel comfortable, they talk in ways that are as eloquent as words. Mine grooms me on a mutual-aid basis, you stroke me I lick you. She's taken to hissing at people on the stairs (territory and feline-behaving-badly syndrome) but my grandson (3 and a half) now hisses back with a huge smile on his face. We need to be thankful for the real values in life, Junior obviously was a real gent.
I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a kitty, especially one as special as Junior. I still miss the kitty who came before Sparkle, and she has been gone for over eight years.
i'm so sorry for your loss. As a mommy to 9 fur-kids.. and lost a few along the way, I totally relate to your loss. May Junior rest in peace and I'm sure he was thankful for all the love you showered on him along the way..
RIP Junior.. you will be missed ...
Lots of meow love

I am so sorry for your loss. My own cat crossed Rainbow Bridge after being with me for 17 years. She's been gone over 20 years and I still miss her. One thing is for certain, all our pets hold special places in our hearts. Big hugs.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved friend. I know how difficult it is. May you continue to remember the good times with your kitty and share those memories with others.
I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sitting here crying after reading your post...because I hate to think of the day when I have to say goodbye to either one of my doggie boys. Hugs and prayers.
It feels so sad reading this post. I love cat's so much. Sorry for the loss of your beloved friend. You're still lucky to be with him in 15 years.
As I read your post, I can feel your heart is breaking. I have been there, and I wonder just how can these little guys like Junior get so deep in our hearts? I am sending you virtual hugs to help you get thru this. It is better to have loved and lost, then not to have loved at all. Lucky you to have had him in your life.
Oh, I'm so sorry. It's so sad that our pets live such short lives.
I am so sorry for your loss. You were so blessed that you were able to give him a loving happy long life. Even 15 years doesn't seem long enough though when they are such a loved member of our family.
My heart broke as I read your words. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Your post touched my heart . . . (((HUGS)))
I'm so sorry about your loss . . . I've been there and know what you are going through.
